Program Introduction

Asia Society Hong Kong Center is excited to announce the launch of the Cultural Ambassador Summer 2024 Program, which will take place from July to August this year. In the program, be ready to immerse yourself in music, visual art and public speaking and get yourself ready to be the new cultural leaders. Through workshops, lecture and concerts, you will embark on the journey that will not only gain technical skills but also develop a deeper understanding of your own cultural identities and explore the broader cultural landscape.


Application fee: HKD 100 each camp

Upon successful completion of the camp with 100% attendance, the application fee will be refunded in full to the student.

Public Speaking, also called oration or oratory, is the process of communicating information to a live audience. The type of information communicated is deliberately structured to inform, persuade, and possibly entertain. 


Through a series of interactive workshops and practical exercises, you will learn how to effectively deliver information and engage a live audience. Drawing inspiration from the role of a docent, you will develop storytelling techniques, learn how to structure engaging presentations, and master the art of captivating your listeners.


Learning Objectives:

  • Performing art skills and strategies to speakers to verbally deliver information proficiently
  • Boost self-confidence in the verbal mode (applying voice projection, body language, content knowledge)
  • Explore various levels of oration
  • Understand and target the audience type to optimize positive response


Eligibility:

Secondary 2 - 4 students

Facilitators



Miguel Urmeneta graduated from Yew Chung Community College with an Associate Degree in Global Media and Communication in 2016. Since graduation, he has participated in numerous acting and performing projects across various mediums, including theatre, voiceover and film. His tenure includes, but is not limited to, work with The Absolutely Fabulous Theatre Connection (AFTEC) – Jockey Club YouthCreate Series, Harbour Secrets and Novalearn. His voiceover work has involved many educational recordings, including listening papers for groups such as Longman, Pan Lloyds Publishers and Aristo Educational Press Ltd. Over the years, Miguel has acquired extensive expertise in designing and facilitating speech and drama workshops for children, teens and adults.

Jem Perks is an educator and artist who teaches creative arts at Colour My World. After graduating in the UK from Manchester Metropolitan University with a Master's Degree in Design and Art Direction and the University of Bolton with a Post Graduate Certificate in Education, he went on to teach a variety of art disciplines as well as English as a foreign language in Hong Kong to a range of ages from early childhood to teens. He has taught grammar, creative writing, and public speaking, among other subjects. Using a mix of digital and traditional media, Jem has created illustrations for books, product packaging, and event promotion. He is currently working on a series of comics, applying his experience of writing and the visual arts to his personal practice.

Music Composition Camp

Date: Jul 12 - 14, 2024


Immerse yourself in a one-of-a-kind music composition camp at the Asia Society Hong Kong Center this summer! 


Led by acclaimed composers and musicians from around the world, this program is designed to unleash your creativity, refine your technical skills, and cultivate your role as a cultural leader in the realm of contemporary music. Through engaging workshops, you will have the opportunity to explore a diverse range of Western and Asian traditional instruments, while also honing your composition abilities to create original pieces with our . The highlight of this exceptional camp is the chance to collaborate with the prestigious AsianArt Ensemble from Berlin, Germany and gamin, the distinguished multi-instrumentalist from Korea, where your compositions will be brought to life by their skilled musicians. 



Learning Outcomes: 

  • Develop your own musical vocabularies and narrative styles
  • Explore and understand the cultural context of musical idea
  • Cultivate your cultural identities and role as cultural leaders
