Event Details

In 1798, jeweller and trader Shalom Cohen arrived in Calcutta, India, paving the way for a diaspora Jewish community in the city. Baghdadi Jews traveled the sea routes from Basrah to Shanghai and settled in port cities along the way. Calcutta was one such centre for the Jewish population. This fascinating documentary explores the identity of a community that prospered in a country situated far from the persecution they had suffered across the Western world.
