At the end of August, Asia Society Hong Kong Center (ASHK) will be holding a Contemporary Portrait Workshop with Photographer, Jeeyun Kim. In this workshop, participants will learn an overview of portrait photography as an art form in historical, modern, and contemporary contexts, as well as an appreciation for portraits by Hedda Morrison, a photographer featured in ASHK's current exhibition Recovery, Resilience, Resurgence.

Portrait with Natural Light will cover lighting techniques to improve portraits. With natural light, participants will learn how to "see" the direction and quality of the light and then place their subjects to create flattering or effective feelings. Participants will use light reflectors (provided by the instructor) and window light.

Portrait with Artificial Light will introduce lighting techniques. Rembrandt lighting, for example, will be covered with the emphasis on understanding the direction, quality and depth of lighting.

No prior lighting training is necessary, but basic knowledge of camera functions, i.e. how to adjust aperture, shutter speed and exposure on one's own camera is needed. Participants will need to bring their own cameras.

The workshop has a maximum participant of 10.

Reservations are made on a first-come-first-served basis.
