Join us for a special screening of "Bad Acting" – a documentary that reveals the true meaning of good acting. This film contains original coaching footage between the theatre director and teacher Olivia Yan (1999 Fellow) and her acting class students, which include celebrated TV actresses and professional stage performers.

Stay behind for an engaging post-screening conversation with Olivia and renowned playwright Candace Chong (2004 Fellow). They are good friends and close collaborators in many successful productions, including the recent "Murder in San Jose". Olivia and Candace will share their thoughts on nurturing young acting talent and theatre appreciation.

    Candace Chong

    Candace Chong (2004 Fellow) is an award-winning playwright. Her works have won six Hong Kong Drama Awards (Best Script). Chong’s work Alive in the Mortuary (2003) was translated into English and Japanese, and The French Kiss (2006) was translated in Korean and restaged in Seoul. Chong’s Wild Boar debuted in Cantonese in 2012, and performed in Chicago in English. She has previously worked with award-winning director David Henry Hwang through translating his work Chinglish. She is supported by the Lee Hysan Foundation Fellowship.

    Olivia Yan

    Founder and artistic director of O Theatre Workshop, Olivia Yan (1999 Fellow) is a Hong Kong theatre director, actress, teacher, and writer. Well recognized for her achievements in theatre, Olivia has been awarded numerous industry prizes, including Artist of the Year from the Hong Kong Arts Development Council (2014) and Best Actress (2000 & 2005) from Hong Kong Drama Awards. This year, “ÉLAN Lost Child Project HK”, an art education program jointly presented by Tai Kwun and O Theatre Workshop, has received the Award for Arts Promotion from the Hong Kong Arts Development Council.
